Overview
Almost every long-form Oman application - family joining visa, professional licence, marriage registration - requires foreign documents to be attested by the Omani Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) after a chain of attestations in the issuing country.
There is no Apostille shortcut: Oman is not a party to the Apostille Convention, so the full chain (notary, originating-country MOFA, Omani embassy, then MOFA Muscat) is mandatory.
Documents required
- Original document to be attested (degree, marriage, birth, etc.)
- Notarisation in the country of origin
- Attestation by the originating country's foreign affairs ministry
- Attestation by the Omani embassy in that country
- Final attestation by MOFA in Muscat
Eligibility
- Document is an original (or certified true copy where allowed)
- All prior steps in the attestation chain are complete
